Roseanna O’Donoghue, 89, of Westminster, MD, and formerly of Taneytown, died peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Sunny Woods Assisted Living in Westminster. Born January 4, 1926 at Stone Lodge Farm near Emmitsburg, she was the daughter of the late David and Dorothy Gloninger O’Donoghue, Sr.
Rosie spent most of her life living at home and caring for her mother and father. She was a devout member of the Catholic faith, and spent a few years in the convent before returning home to care for her parents. When Rosie was about ten years old and living at her grandmother’s home, Valley View, in Emmitsburg, she and three of her female cousins went for a hike in the nearby woods. They got lost, and when darkness fell, she found a spot where they could safely spend the night. They walked out of the woods the next morning to discover that a search party comprised of family members, neighbors, and the authorities, had anxiously spent the night looking for them. The local newspaper reported how Rosie had stayed cool and led the group safely home.
For the past fifteen years Rosie resided at Sunny Woods Assisted Living where she became part of the family, and was very well cared for by the manager, Toni Lee Carmine, and the Sunny Woods family and staff. She was also under the care of Seasons Hospice when she passed away. While her activities were quite limited in recent years, Rosie was always happy and friendly to all.
Surviving are brothers, John O’Donoghue of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Louis O’Donoghue of Frederick; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by 10 siblings.
Burial plans are private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown.
