Rose Therese Kretzschmar, age 81 of Finksburg, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster from lung cancer. She was born October 3, 1929 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Mortimer A. and Rose Marie Terry O’ Sullivan. She was the wife of Richard J. Kretzschmar, her husband of 58 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
In Lawrence, Massachusetts, Rose graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She received her nursing degree from St. John’s Hospital in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1950. She was employed there as a nurse on the medical and surgical ward.
She married in 1953 and moved to Baltimore, MD where she worked for two years at the Bon Secours Hospital in the new born nursery. A few years after the birth of her sons, she returned to nursing with the Baltimore County Health Department as a school nurse. During her lifetime she loved meeting people and making friends. Rose enjoyed extensive travel throughout the U.S. and other countries.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Frederick J. and Deborah Kretzschmar of San Anselmo, CA and Thomas M. and Mary Kretzschmar of Anchorage, AK; siblings, Mortimer A. O’Sullivan of Hampstead, NH, Margaret M. Riley of Largo, FL, and John V. O’Sullivan of Middleboro, MA; grandchildren, Lauren V., Anna C., and William B. Kretzschmar; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, William O’Sullivan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 65 Sacred Heart Lane, Glyndon, MD on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Fr. Mark Lanoue as celebrant.
Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery in Reisterstown, MD.
The family will receive friends at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster on Sunday 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
