Ronald Lee Cheeks, age 72, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the University of Maryland Hospital Center in Baltimore.
He was born on August 21, 1942 in Ellicott City, MD, son of Cleo Arnold (Eads) Cheeks of West Virginia and the late Harold Wesley Cheeks. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Ann (Reaver) Cheeks.
Ron was a retired electrician and member of the Local #24 IBEW. He enjoyed attending auctions and refinishing furniture, especially chairs. He loved visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving him in addition to his wife and mother are children, Leah Potts and fiancée Gary Lauer of Hampstead, Harold “Butch” Cheeks and wife Kelly of Westminster, and Serena McDougal and husband William of Westminster; siblings, Harold Bruce Cheeks and wife Sandra of Arizona, Sharon Lentzner and husband David of Littlestown, Janet Norris and husband Wilson of Finksburg, Diane Wethington of W.VA., and Wanda Edwards of Finksburg; grandchildren, Ronald Cheeks, Elizabeth Russ, Joseph Cheeks, Cole Cheeks, and Mark Blizzard; 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Mayfield; grandson, William Cheeks; and granddaughter, Taylor Shorb.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until the time of a Funeral Service at 8 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St, Westminster, MD, with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. officiating. Burial will be private.
