Rolf Baur, 77, resident of Emeritus Assisted Living in Westminster and formerly of Taneytown, died peacefully Friday, June 27, 2014 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born October 15, 1936 in Friedrichshafen, Germany, he was the son of the late Mechaniker and Gererud Baumann Baur. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Szeneczey Baur, to whom he was married for 35 years.
Rolf was a Plant Manager for 3M Corporation where he was employed for many years in Virginia, Massachusetts, and Maryland. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He recently embraced the Catholic faith. He was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Redskins. Rolf enjoyed being outdoors and gardening. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and his pet cat, Nicky.
Surviving are daughters, Marion Klein of Middletown, Virginia, and Becky Meinhold and husband Rick of Middletown, Delaware; sister, Elvira Baur, and brother, Peter Baur, both of Germany; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. He is also remembered by the staff of Emeritus Assisted Living and by very close friends, Cindy Macco and her family. He was predeceased by sister, Irene Gulartie, and brothers, Horst and Dieter Baur.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St, Taneytown, MD, with Monsignor Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. A reception and gathering of friends will be held afterward in the church social hall.
