Roland Leroy Stonesifer, 95, of Taneytown died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born January 9, 1918 in Maryland, he was the son of the late Edgar Leroy and Lucretia L. Warehime Stonesifer.
Roland was a draftsman for Martin Marietta Corporation for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He attained the rank of sergeant as an Army Air Force gunnery instructor. He enjoyed horse racing, bowling, collecting coins, and reading, especially Time Magazine and Readers Digest. He was an avid Baltimore Colts fan. Roland was actively involved at Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Catonsville.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Ardel, Galen “Sparky,” and Leland Stonesifer.
A memorial service to celebrate Roland’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD with the Rev. Patricia Roop Hollinger officiating. Inurnment will follow in Emmanuel Baust Cemetery.
