Robert “Bob” William Slowey, 83, of Emmitsburg, Maryland died peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2020 at home.
Born February 2, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York he was the son of the late John C. Slowey, Sr. and Dorothy (Littman) Slowey. He was the loving and devoted husband of 35 years to Karla M. (Hopkins) Slowey.
Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1967 to 1971. He worked as a butcher and meat cutter for various grocery stores while living in FL, and owned his own shop in N.J. for several years. He enjoyed living in the Clearwater, FL area for several years, moving back to MD to be closer to grandchildren. He worked as a handyman and maintenance man for the Sleep Inn in Emmitsburg and was honored as employee of the month, retiring in 2016. Bob would help anyone and lived the Christian faith. He could often be seen and loved walking around town and at the beach. He loved the ocean, fishing, and birdwatching.
Surviving in addition to his wife Karla are children, Dianna Jankos and husband Louis of Millstone, NJ, Cynthia Rossini and husband Frank of Paramus, NJ, Nancy Olson and husband Eric of Cave Creek, AZ, Karla Dodd of Harpers Ferry, W.VA, Donald Williamson, II and wife Donna of Mt. Airy, MD, and Karen Davis and husband Arthur of Brunswick, MD; brother, Dennis J. Slowey of Chandler, AZ; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by son, Robert W. Slowey, Jr.; brothers, John C. Slowey, Jr. and William B. Slowey; sisters, Pat “Dorothy” Bianco and Joan Cirrillo.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 11, 2020 from 2-4 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD. A private funeral service will follow for the family.
