Robert “Bob” E. Thompson, age 73, of Emmitsburg, Maryland died peacefully on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at College View Nursing Center in Frederick, Maryland.
Born March 14, 1937 in Lignum, Virginia, he was the son of the late Alice Marie (Thompson) Franklin. He was the long-time loving and devoted companion of Margaret “Margie” Pyles.
He was a retired tractor-trailer driver in the tri-state area for many years. Bob loved gardening and attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Taneytown.
Surviving in addition to his companion are children, Marcus E. Thompson of Emmitsburg, MD, Robert “Bobby” E. Thompson, Jr. and wife Darlena of Va., Barbara Ann Thompson of Va., Vickie Wright and husband Cubby of N.C., Tina Thompson of Va., Brian Thompson and wife Cindy of Va., Marshall Thompson and wife Lauri of Va., David Thompson and wife Nicole of Va., and Charles Newman and wife Sandy of Va.; siblings, Virginia Bradby and husband Lawrence of Va., Mary Knight and husband Curtis of Washington, D.C., James Franklin and wife Elizabeth H. of Va., Charles Franklin and wife Joyce of Va., Vance Franklin and wife Ann of Md., John Franklin of Va.; 21 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Eliza Franklin of Va., and Geraldine Franklin of Md.
He was predeceased by brothers, Henry Franklin and Lorenzo Franklin, and by a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, on Monday, April 12, 2010 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown with Pastors Josh and Rachel Semovoski co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Taneytown. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown and on Monday from 1 PM until the time of service at the church.
