Robert Albert Taylor, 82, of Springfield, VA, formerly of Westminster, MD and Arlington, VA, died peacefully on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at his home. Born November 16, 1929 in Painesville, OH, raised in Boston, MA, he was son of the late Thomas and Alma LaHaise Taylor. He was the beloved husband of Joan Fahy Taylor, to whom he was married for 56 years.
Robert, better known as Bob, was a land surveyor for the Arlington County, VA government for 35 years, after serving 4 years in the US Navy in the Mediterranean, stationed out of Charleston, SC. He was a recent member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown, MD. He was a volunteer with Hospice of Carroll County for almost 10 years, the Interfaith Housing Alliance in Carroll County and Resurrection Farm Shelter for the Homeless for years. He loved music, dancing and “singing”, enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica, volleyball and pickleball, camping, boating, gardening, cooking, animals, nature, swimming, his many pets and especially his grandchildren. He liked carpentry, could fix nearly anything, had a wonderful sense of humor, and would help anyone in need. He practiced Tai Chi and Karate. Bob enjoyed spending time with people, especially family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are 3 daughters, Cecilia Todd and husband, James, of Annandale, VA, Marie Taylor of Mt. Vernon, VA, and Laura Blanchard and husband, Michael, of Frederick, MD; 3 sons, Thomas Taylor and wife, Colleen, of Holly Springs, NC, David Taylor and wife, Minet, of Woodbridge, VA, and Robert S. Taylor of Springfield, VA; a brother, Richard Taylor and wife, Maureen, of Titusville, FL; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, October 10 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD with Monsignor Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
