Robert Carl Simmons, Jr., 80, of Keymar, Maryland passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Carroll Hospital Center following a brief illness.
Born in Keymar on March 21, 1938, he was the son of the late Robert Carl Simmons, Sr. and Dorothy Alice Haugh Simmons.
Bob was a 1956 graduate of Taneytown High School. He was an active member of Mt. Zion Haugh’s Lutheran Church, Ladiesburg, MD where he had served on the church council and cemetery board. He was employed by Safeway Grocery Stores, retiring in 1998 after 36 years. He was a charter member of the Blue and Grey Model T Ford Club of Hagerstown, MD; Model T Ford Club of America; Model T Ford Club International; a life member of the Antique Automobile Club; Mason-Dixon Region of AACA of Hagerstown, MD; and the Francis Scott Key Antique Automobile Club of Frederick, MD. He was also a member of the Train Collectors Association of Strausburg, PA. Bob was a former member of the Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps of Hanover, PA; the Taneytown Drum and Bugle Corps; the VFW Patriots Drum and Bugle Corps of Westminster; and the Starlighters Sr. Drum and Bugle Corps of Westminster. Bob enjoyed going to auctions and going on tours with the Model T Ford Club. He will be missed by his family and his many friends.
He is survived by his sister, Dorothy A. Keeler and husband, Vernon of Keymar; his brother, Stephen N. Simmons of York, PA; nieces, Kimberly Rees and husband, Brian of Hanover, PA, Elizabeth Williams and husband, Benjamin of Colorado Springs, CO; nephew, Abraham Simmons of York, PA; great nieces, Melissa Rees, Kali Rees, and Amber Williams; great nephew, William Simmons. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Simmons.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward J. Simmons; his grandparents, J. Harry and Rose V. Simmons and S. Edward and Effie Bohn Haugh.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Mt. Zion Haugh’s Lutheran Church, 11054 Haugh’s Church Rd., Keymar, MD with the Rev. David Bare officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Haugh’s Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 24th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown and on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
