Robert “Rodger” Nelson Purvis, age 80, of Westminster, Maryland, died on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson following a brief illness.
Born December 9, 1930 in Avalon, Pennsylvania, he was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 34 years of service as a chief master sergeant. He was a member of The Chincoteague Church of God, Crossroads Community Church in Westminster, and the American Legion Post #159, Chincoteague, VA.
He is survived by his wife Virginia “Ginny” (nee Fundis) Purvis; children, Karen Fischer, Rodger T. Purvis and wife Beth, Richard A. Purvis, John M. Purvis, and Jason F. Cox and wife Jennifer; and numerous grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 8th from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 9th at 11:00 AM from the Crossroads Community Church (Old TSC building), Rt. 140 in Westminster. Burial with military honors will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
