Robert L. Pittinger, age 68, of Emmitsburg died Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Lorien Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Taneytown. Born August 28, 1942 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late George and Ella (Eyler) Pittinger. He was the husband of Catherine “Sis” (Manahan) Pittinger, his wife of 44 years.

He was a dump truck operator for Feeser Trucking Co. in Taneytown. His early career was spent as a driver for various dairy farms. He was a member of Elias Lutheran Church in Emmitsburg. He enjoyed woodworking, building bird houses and hunting.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Robert Pittinger, Jr. of Maryland; daughters Kimberly Sue Pittinger of Taneytown, Lisa Eckert of New Oxford, PA, Cheryl Lynne Martin and husband Scott of Littlestown, PA, and step-son Randy Lee Stonesifer of Taneytown; brothers Roland Pittinger of Taneytown, Francis Pittinger of Keymar, & George Pittinger of Westminster; sisters Marie Long of Arizona, Mary Wivell of Seven Valleys, PA, Barbara Bostian of Taneytown, & Dorothy Sweeney of Thurmont. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Wivell.

A funeral service will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 22 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 West Main St., Emmitsburg, MD, with the Rev. Jon R. Greenstone officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
