Robert Shippen “Bob” Hachten, 88, of Detour, MD, died peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Ministries in Emmitsburg, MD. Born August 3, 1931 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Arthur William and Harriet Rose (Staples) Hachten.
Bob was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C., class of ’49, and subsequently earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Maryland. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He was owner of the Marco Polo Gift Shop in Bethesda, MD for over 25 years and worked as a clerk at The Village Store in Detour, MD during 20 years following his retirement. Bob enjoyed watching The History Channel, following politics and keeping up on current events.
He is survived by a sister, Helen Popenoe and her husband Chuck of Bethesda. He is also remembered by his dear friend and employer, Roxanne Burrier. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Hachten.
Services are private. The family is being assisted by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.
