Robert Lloyd Carmack, Sr. age 84, of Westminster, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at his home at Westminster Ridge surrounded by his family. He was born January 1, 1924 in Chambersburg, PA the son of the late Arthur Sylvestor and Helen Amsley Carmack. He was one of 11 children. He was the husband of the late Anna Rouse Carmack, his wife of 48 years.
He was a retired carpenter foreman for the State of Maryland. He was a member of the Door to Virtue Masonic Lodge #46 of Westminster, Doric Masonic Lodge #30 of Millville, DE, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason of Boumi Temple in Baltimore and the Shrine Club of Baltimore. He enjoyed golf, carpentry, cooking, playing cards and spending time with family and he especially enjoyed spending time with his friends at Westminster Ridge. He served in the Army Air Corp in World War II from 1942 to 1945. He served in the European theatre of Operations and received five Battle Stars for Asiatic Pacific Campaign, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign, American Campaign, Army of Occupation of Germany and Occupation of Japan. He also received two Good Conduct Medals and a presidential Citation. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
He is survived by sons and daughter-in-laws, Robert L. Jr. and Susan Carmack of Westminster, Charles A. Carmack and Meredith Smith of Fenwick Island, DE; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Ronald Stephan of Westminster and former daughter-in-law Holly Carmack of Bishopville, MD; siblings, Hazel Russo of Shrewsbury, PA, Connie Benedict and Joyce Renninger of Chambersburg, PA and Larry Carmack of Philipsburg, PA; also survived by 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday 11:00 AM in the Great Room at Westminster Ridge, 505 High Acre Drive, Westminster. The family will receive friends 10:00 AM until time of the service at Westminster Ridge. Inurnment will be private in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg, PA.
