Robert Leroy “Bobby” Bowers Sr., 79, of Taneytown died peacefully at his home Tuesday, January 7, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born October 14, 1934 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Monroe and Isabelle Rinehart Bowers. He was the husband of Arlene Ahn Bowers, to whom he was married for nearly 54 years.
Robert was a bulldozer operator and was co-owner of the Bowers Company in Littlestown. He enjoyed woodworking and his work in excavating. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball and served as Assistant Scoutmaster of the Boy Scout Troop in Taneytown. He was also an avid hunter and diehard New York Yankees fan. Bobby enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Randall Bowers of Taneytown; brother, Jackie Bowers of Taneytown; friend and daughter-in-law, Wendy Beverly Bowers; grandchildren, Sarena and Jared Bowers; sisters-in-law, Anna Turvin of East Berlin, PA, and Helen Burrier of Detour; three nieces; one nephew; and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by son, Robert Leroy Bowers, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD with the Rev. Anne C. Durboraw officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Rocky Ridge. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
