Rita Agnes Stahley, age 94, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Ministries in Emmitsburg.
Born July 10, 1921 on the family farm near Emmitsburg, she was the daughter of the late John and Jane (Baker) Lingg. She was the wife of the late Joseph Earl Stahley who predeceased her in 1988.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Emmitsburg. Rita worked for a number of years for Mount St. Mary’s University in the laundry. She was an avid baseball fan, enjoyed puzzles especially find-a-word, and loved picnics with family and friends.
Surviving her are children, Shirley Spinelli and husband John of The Villages, FL, Dennis J. Stahley and wife Phyllis of Emmitsburg, Jane Shorb of Thurmont, and Donna Long and husband Ronnie of Graceham; grandchildren, Teresa Bloom, Carita Carlyle, Lucia Doughty, Mark Spinelli, Keith Shorb, Kevin Shorb, Korey Shorb, Chris Stahley, Tiffany Click, and Ashley Atkins; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Morgret and Ruth Heiser both of Gettysburg, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by siblings, Helen Randolph, Catherine Lowe, Edward, Raymond, and Paul Lingg, and Edna Straley.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg with Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. as celebrant. Burial will follow in New St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
