Richard Allen “Joe” Eyler, 65, of Fairfield, PA died Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Maryland following heart surgery. Born January 13, 1949 in Emmitsburg, he was the son of the late Edgar and Alice (Miller) Eyler. He was the husband of Margaret “Peggy” (Abrahams) Eyler, his partner in life for 33 years.
Joe was retired from the Maryland State Highway Administration where he spent 30 years as an equipment operator and maintenance crew member. He enjoyed gardening, fixing anything mechanical and spending time with his family and the family pets. Joe will be remembered as a loving, caring, and unselfish family man.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Jeannie Springer and husband Donald, and Donna Eyler-Sayler and husband Thomas, all of Fairfield, PA; son, John Cullison of Fairfield, PA; granddaughters, Kayla Springer, and Shawna Eyler-Sayler, both of Fairfield, PA; brothers, Clifford Eyler and wife Shirley, and Sammie Eyler and wife Annie, all of Emmitsburg; and several nieces and nephews. He is also remembered by special extended family members, Cathy, Buddy, and Abigale Lewis. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Seltzer, and a brother Manny Eyler.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St, Emmitsburg, MD, with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday.
