The Rev. Richard Kent “Rick” Shamer, 74, of Westminster, went home to be with the Lord Saturday morning, August 21, 2021. He passed at his home. He was the husband of Juanita Kay (Kegerreis) Shamer, to whom he was married for 50 years.
Rick was born May 6, 1947 in Patapsco, the son of the late Elsworth LeRoy and Lyda Anne (Flater) Shamer. He was a 1965 graduate of Westminster High School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. For 20 years, Rick worked for Western Maryland and CSX Railroad as an Assistant Trainmaster. He was a Methodist minister, who served the Boring/Dover Circuit, and the Zion of Shipley United Methodist Church. He loved trains and train excursions, cooking, and watching old movies, especially westerns and classics. He also loved listening to music, and was a fan of the Orioles and former Baltimore Colts. Rick was an avid history buff.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are sons, John R. Shamer (Glenda) of Hanover, PA, Kent L. Shamer of Westminster, and Mark A. Shamer (Rachel) of Royal Palm Beach, FL; grandchildren, Justin Carhart (Chelsea) of Hanover, PA, and Rebecca, Amelia and Elizabeth Shamer of Green River, WY; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Elsworth “Buck” Shamer, Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis Street, Westminster, with his cousin, Pastor Wayne Shamer, officiating. Burial will follow in Patapsco U.M. Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
