Richard Elmer Adkins

February 24, 1925 — July 20, 2014

Richard Elmer Adkins, 89, of Keymar, died peacefully Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.  Born February 24, 1925 in Middletown, he was the son of the late Roy and Naomi Sines Adkins.  He was the husband of Lillie Viola Frock Adkins, to whom he was married for 56 years.  She died in 2008.

Richard was a life-long farmer in Carroll County.  He was a member of the former Holiness Christian Church in Keymar and had helped to build the church’s parsonage many years ago.  He began milking cows at the age of 5 and continued in dairy farming until 2011 when he retired and moved from the farm.  He enjoyed watching game shows in recent years and spending time with his family.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Mary Catherine Adkins of Keymar, Joyce Reinholt and friend David Burriss of Union Bridge, and Tammy Reichert of Keymar; son, Kevin Adkins of Keymar, who worked side by side with his father in the dairy business; adopted son, Glenn Graybill of Taneytown; sister, Betty Adkins Topper Busler and husband Verne of Hanover, PA; 4 grandchildren, Michelle Reinholt Bydume and husband Derrick, Jeremy Reichert,  Joshua Reichert and friend Lydia Mahanna, and Shaina Reichert Rogall and husband Kody; 5 great-grandchildren, Brittnee and Kyle Burriss, Meckenzee Bydume, Logan Reinholt, and Tripp Rogall; and a host of other close relatives and friends.  He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Hahn; 3 brothers, Mehrl, Russell, and Charles Adkins; and his first wife, Martha Kump Adkins, who died October 14, 1951.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24 at Keysville Union Cemetery with the Rev. Rob Wills officiating.  A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow so friends may visit with the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Francis Scott Key FFA, % Joe Linthicum, 3825 Bark Hill Rd, Union Bridge, MD, 21791.
