Rhoda G. Sutton, age 93, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.
Born December 1, 1919 in Sutton, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Ivy (Butcher) Gaston. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter D. Sutton, Jr.
She was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy as a registered nurse. She was of the Methodist faith. She volunteered with the March of Dimes, was a Girl Scout volunteer, school room mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and volunteering as a greeter at Westminster Ridge.
Surviving are daughter, Marion “Candy” Aaron and husband Patrick Aaron of Westminster, sister, Mary Lewis of Texas; granddaughter, Emily Aaron Craig and husband Jason; and great-granddaughters, Lauren, Anna, and Sarah.
She was predeceased by a son, Walter “Chip” Sutton, III and by siblings, Edith Jordan, Jesse Gaston, Betty Lewis, and Minnie Gaston.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster with Rev. Jim Ball officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
