Rettie Jane Buckner, age 100 of Hanover, PA died Thursday May 13, 2010 at Care South in Homewood at Plum Creek. She was born January 17, 1910 in Luttrell, Tennessee the daughter of the late Thomas Morgan and Nancy Jane Frost Dyer. She was the wife of the late Fred Elmer Buckner who she married on January 16, 1927 and they were married 62 years before his death in 1989. She lived most of her life in Tennessee and formerly resided in Corryton, TN. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday with a party in her honor and a small gathering of family in attendance.
While living in Maryland and Tennsssee she was active in several churches and participated in numerous quilting bees, sang in choirs and assisted in Vacation Bible School activities. She loved planting and caring for flowers and was busy every summer with canning the many vegetables grown in their garden.
She is survived by two daughters, Anna Ruth Byroade of Bradenton, Florida and Phyllis Schneider and husband Ray of Hanover, PA; She also leaves five grandchildren, Connie Shipley and husband Jim of Holmes Beach, Florida, Edward Byroade and wife Leanne of York, PA, Brian Byroade of Bradenton, FL, Jeffrey Schneider of Parkesburg, PA and Lori Ott and husband Tony of Taneytown, MD. She also leaves behind six great granddaughters and two great great granddaughters, plus several nieces and nephews residing in Tennessee and Georgia.
The family will receive friends Sunday May 16th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster.
A visitation and service will also take place at Mynatt Funeral Home, Knoxville, Tennessee and interment will be in Dyer Cemetery in Powder Springs, Tennessee.
