Reno M. Eyler

March 22, 1939 — July 21, 2017

Reno M. Eyler, 78, resident of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the York Hospital in York, PA.

Born March 22, 1939 in Winfield, MD, he was the son of the late Dilly Reno Eyler and Marian (Stonesifer) Eyler.

Reno was a concrete carpenter and worked in construction for most of his career.  He was a member of Elias Evangelical Lutheran Church in Emmitsburg.  An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he was a life-time member of the Rouzerville Fish & Game Association and the National Rifle Association.  Reno was a gun enthusiast and collector and had a great working knowledge of guns.  He enjoyed reading history, especially about the “Old West” and pioneer days.  He played many sports alongside his brother Gene.  The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at both Gettysburg and York Hospitals and especially the staff of St. Joseph Ministries in Emmitsburg for their care of Reno over the past year.

Surviving are sisters, Dolores Wivell and husband James “Buff” of Thurmont, Margaret Ott of Emmitsburg, Dorothy Damuth and husband Art of Emmitsburg, and Shirley Smith and husband Richard of Gettysburg; brother, Eugene Eyler and wife Fran of Thurmont; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by sister, Nancy Eyler and by brothers-in-law, Jack Eyler and John Ott, Sr.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Elias Lutheran Church, 100 W. North St., Emmitsburg, with Rev. Jon R. Greenstone officiating.  Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rouzerville Fish & Game Association to benefit “Youth Day”, 11721 Woodhaven Rd., Waynesboro, PA  17268.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Emmitsburg.
