Phyllis Agnes Payne, age 86, of Emmitsburg, Maryland died on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the St. Catherine’s Nursing Center in Emmitsburg.
Born December 11, 1923 in Williamsport, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lillian (Ward) Pryor. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph “Bill” William Payne in 2003.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Emmitsburg and a member of the AARP. She was employed for many years as a nursing assistant at St. Joseph’s Provincial House in Emmitsburg.
Surviving are a sister, Jane Robertson of Emmitsburg; and many nieces, nephews, devoted neighbors and friends.
She was predeceased by siblings, Kenneth, Wilson, and William Pryor, and by Paula Heffner.
Friends may call on Wednesday, December 8th from 6-8 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St. Emmitsburg where a Christian Wake service will begin at 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St. Emmitsburg with the Rev. John Holliday, C.M. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery.
