Philip Kabatt, 56, of Reading Pennsylvania passed away unexpectedly on March 17th 2024.
Phillip was born on July 3, 1967, to Alice (née Hastings) Kabatt and Leo T Kabatt Jr, in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Gonzaga High School in 1985, he went on to join the United States Marine Corp where he served honorably for 8 years.
After joining the Marine Corp, Phil attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA becoming a linguist in Russian, Bulgarian and Serbo-Croatian. He attained the rank of Staff Sargent serving in such countries as Belgium and Japan. He was Honorably Discharged in 1993. He was reactivated after 9/11/01 and served in Afghanistan & Iraq
His dedication to the military was recognized by the many citations & medals awarded that included the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct, Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and NATO (Former Yugoslavia) Medal.
He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1995 with a BA in Russian Language
He worked for the CIA for several years beginning in 1997 for which he received the CIA’s Balkans Service Medallion.
Following his Honorably Discharge, again, after his 9/11/2001 Marine stint, he worked with Military Contractors out of Ft McDill Florida as an Intelligence officer, and was again sent to Afghanistan & Iraq.
Phil is survived by his children Kyra Kent (fiancé Mikey Illiano), Philip Kabatt, II (Jenna) and Gideon Kabatt; grandchildren, Mikayla Kent, Carmine Illiano, Veda and Isla Kabatt. He is also survived by his mother, Alice, of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and brothers Paul Kabatt (Sally), Mike Kabatt (Debbie)and Greg Kabatt and numerous other extended family and friends.
Phil was preceded in death by his father, Leo Kabatt.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Team Rubicon or Wounded Warrior Project, organizations for which Phil volunteered and had a deep commitment.
