Pearl Cline Chaves, age 85 of Westminster, died Monday October 8, 2012 at University of Maryland Medical Center. She was born July 25, 1927 in Staunton, VA, daughter of the late Roy and Neala Rexrude Cline. She was the wife of Jesse R. Chaves, her husband of 47 years. After graduating from high school, she majored in Business at Madison College, Harrisonburg, VA (now James Madison University) and was employed by Prudential Life Insurance Company for 20 years. Before retirement, she worked as a secretary for the U.S. Defense Intelligence at the Pentagon. She was a member of St. Luke’s (Winters) Lutheran Church in New Windsor.
At Carroll Lutheran Village, Pearl was involved with Bible study, worship leadership and volunteered at Diven House and the Healthcare Center as a Bingo leader. She was always helping friends in need with visits and food offerings and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She was a former member of First Lutheran Church in Ellicott City, Lutheran Church Women and WELCA. She was very supportive of her husband’s band activities. Her hobbies included traveling, flower gardening and dancing.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by siblings, Roy P. Cline, Russell N. Cline, Sr. and Janet Lee Bautista.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday October 13, 2012 at Carroll Lutheran Village, Krug Chapel, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster with Rev. Anne C. Durboraw and Rev. Jimmie L Schwartz officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster and Saturday 11:00 a.m. until time of the service at Krug Chapel.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday October 15, 2012 in Pleasant View Lutheran Cemetery, 2733 Spring Hill Road, Staunton, VA.
