Pauline “Polly” Watkins, age 93, of Emmitsburg, MD, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at St. Catherine’s Nursing Center in Emmitsburg.
She was born December 18, 1915 in Woodfield, Maryland, the daughter of the late James Rufus and Della (Waters) King.
Polly was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Emmitsburg, Maryland and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women. She worked for the Daughters of Charity as a secretary for over 21 years. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, attending Emmitsburg Senior Citizens, quilting with her friends, and most of all, loved being with her family.
Surviving her are children, John E. Watkins and wife Sandy of Waynesboro, PA, Rachel P. Wivell and husband William of Emmitsburg, Deborah S. Clarke and husband William of Littlestown, PA; grandchildren, Stephen, Douglas, and Wayne Watkins, Crystal Mumma, Todd and Tim Wivell, Amanda Neil, and Michael Clarke; 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Richard Watkins.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Wesley Grove United Methodist Church, 23640 Woodfield Road, Gaithersburg, MD, with her pastor the Rev. John Rudolph of Trinity U.M. Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Damascus Methodist Cemetery in Damascus, MD. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 313 West Main Street, Emmitsburg, MD, and again on Saturday from 2:00 PM, until the time of service at the Wesley Grove U.M. Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the St. Catherine’s Nursing Center Benevolent Fund, 331 South Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, MD 21727-9200. Arrangements are by the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg, MD.
