Pauline Carmen Topper, age 72, of Keymar, Maryland, died peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at home.
Born on May 3, 1943 in Bruceville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Roland Roscoe Stitely and Emma Virginia (Clem) Stitely.
Pauline was employed by Black & Decker Co. in Hampstead for 20 years, and then worked for the Carroll County Public School System as a custodian at Francis Scott Key High School for the past 27 years, retiring in June. Her companion in life for over 20 years, Mr. George Clayton Groft, whom she met while working at Black & Decker, predeceased her on December 2, 2002. She is survived by her current companion, Robert Ellis of Altoona, PA. As a child she attended Evangelical Christian Church of Keymar along with her parents. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Harney VFW and the Taneytown American Legion. She enjoyed hunting and playing BINGO; and was crowned Ms. Taneytown in 1959 at the age of 16.
Surviving her are children, Tony Brent Shower and wife Lori of Littlestown, PA, Robin Annette Gauss and husband Robert of Emmitsburg, Cheryl Lynn Peters of Hanover, PA, and Darian Keith Topper and companion Stacie Tasker of Keymar; brother, Charles William Stitely and wife Bernice of Taneytown; sister, Diane Naugle and husband Ronnie of Taneytown; grandchildren, Tony Jr., Wayne, Justin, and Crystal Shower, Ryan McNaney, Brad, Kyle, and Jerry Roberts, Tonya, Lori, Michael, and Brandon Peters, and Carmen Renee Topper. Also surviving are many great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and special best friend who help with her care, Delores “Cookie” Sauble of Union Bridge. She was predeceased by her brother, Paul Thomas Stitely.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 East Baltimore St., Taneytown with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Haugh’s Church Cemetery in Ladiesburg, MD. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
