Paul Richard Spangler, Sr., 82, of Emmitsburg, MD, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick. Born October 19, 1934 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late George and Katherine (Crist) Spangler. He was the devoted husband of the late D’Ann (Sullivan) Spangler.
Paul was a lineman and test desk engineer for C&P Telephone Company for over 35 years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War, and was a member of the Francis X. Elder American Legion Post 121 in Emmitsburg. He enjoyed working on cars, going to yard sales, collecting interesting things, tinkering, model railroading, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved children, Daniel, Sarah, D’Ann, John, Paul, Ruth, Elizabeth, Andrew and Megan; grandchildren, John, Jared, Evan, Micayla, Cameron, Malachi, Ike, Ethan, Rose, Eli, Lily and Gabrielle; sister, Jane; brother, Ralph; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will forever be loved and missed. Everything he did, he did for his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2017 at St. Anthony Shrine Parish, 16150 St. Anthony Rd., Emmitsburg, MD, with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. as celebrant. Burial will follow at New St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 18 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD.
