Paul David Roop, 77, of Keymar, Maryland died unexpectedly Sunday, February 22, 2015 at his home. Born October 23, 1937 near Taneytown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Earl David and Mary Agnes (Bentzel) Roop. He was the husband of Donna D. (Taylor) Roop, to whom he was married for almost 52 years.
Paul was a life-long farmer in Carroll County. He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard, serving for six years. He worked for more than 15 years at the former Smith’s Bakery in Ladiesburg, and was manager of the former Small’s Auto Parts in Emmitsburg. At the time of his death, Paul was a self-employed business man. He was a member of Keysville Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Williamsport Red Men Lodge #84, and the former Taneytown Jaycees. Paul enjoyed John Deere tractors, discussing politics, camping, boating, raising flowers, woodworking, and most of all, spending time with his beloved family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter, Nicole Paulette Roop of Littlestown, PA; son, Christian David Roop and wife Angela of Hanover, PA; sisters, Audrey Rohrbaugh of Keymar, and Thelma Raab of Taneytown; grandson, Ashton David Roop; sister-in-law, Helen Roop of Keymar; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Mary Louise Chew; brother, Norval Roop; and a sister, Marie Lois Roop, who died at birth.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 28 at Keysville Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7301 Keysville Rd., Keymar, MD with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Keysville Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the church and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
