Paul Thomas Johnson, age 73, of Fayetteville, TN, died suddenly on Thursday, August 26, 2010 in Taneytown, MD while visiting family.
Born January 10, 1937 in Lockhaven, PA, he was the son of the late Rev. George R. and Olive (Ruggles) Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Ann (Fowler) Johnson.
He graduated from the University of Maryland with a BSME, after spending three years five months in the US Navy as a training devicesman. He worked as an electromechanical designer for Lockheed Missiles and Space Company, test engineer for Wyle Laboratories, engineering supervisor, project manager for Teledyne Brown Engineering and finished his 40 some odd years of professional engineering career with The Boeing Company as a member of the NASA Johnson Space Center Flight Payload Safety Review Panel.
He attended St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church and was active as a lay reader, chalice bearer, and vestry person. He loved to sing and did so in church choirs as a bass most of his adult life. He possessed a passion for the outdoors and would spend time on his 36 acres clearing the land or just roaming and admiring nature.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Thomas Paul Johnson of Fayetteville, TN, and Jeffrey Paul Johnson of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Jonathon Trey Johnson of Dallas, TX, Kasey Lauren Johnson of Fayetteville, TN, Jonica Ann Johnson and Reeanna Renae Johnson of San Diego, CA; brother, Rev. Richard Johnson and wife Shirley of Pine Grove, PA; sister, Miriam Bott and husband Donald of Tucson, Arizona; and sister-in-law Vera Johnson of Lancaster, PA.
He was predeceased by a brother, Stephen Johnson of Lancaster, PA.
Visitation with the family will be at their home, 126 Boonshill Rd., Fayetteville, TN Monday from 2-8 PM. Funeral services will be at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Rogers officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Taneytown, Maryland with Monsignor Martin E. Feild officiating.
Local arrangements are by the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown.
