Paul Heffner, age 87, of New Windsor, Maryland, died peacefully on Tuesday evening, April 28, 2009 at the Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.
Born April 2, 1922 in Boonsboro, Maryland, he was the son of the late Vernon and Anna Mae (Condon) Heffner. He was predeceased by his 1st wife, Geraldine A. Heffner, and by 2nd wife, Aldena E. (Engle) Heffner.
Paul was a veteran of W.W. II, serving in the U.S. Army. He worked as a mechanic/operator at Martin Marietta, local farms around New Winsor, including Baugher’s, 10 years with Westminster Shoe and later Shaffer Lumber. He loved motorcycle and auto racing and watching cooking shows.
Surviving are children, Linda Fogle and husband Steve of Hagerstown, Paul E. Heffner, Sr. of Littlestown, Pa, Dorothy Jones of New Windsor, Pat Abel and companion Mickey Kline of New Windsor, Barbara A. Stoffa and companion Joe Niedzielski of Owings Mills, Carolyn Boone and husband Billy of Union Bridge, and Charlie Heffner of Westminster; step-children, Lena Swanson and husband Ernie of Tennessee, Daisey Thompson and husband Tom of Arizona, Frances Frey and husband Bill of Oregon, Robert “Bobby” Toms and wife Alta of Florida, and Elmer Toms, Jr. of Utah; sisters, Martha Brown of PA, Ruth Niner of Westminster, and Betty Copenhaver and husband Ray of Taneytown. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special granddaughter/caregiver Paula Heffner.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Ruth Elaine Heffner, step-children, Donald Toms, Sr., and Mary Fringer, and by siblings, George, John, and James Heffner, Bertha Jones, and Rachel Haines.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM, on Friday, May 1, 2009 in Westminster Cemetery, with Rev. Dan Ceary officiating.
