Patricia Cecilia Sweeney, 73, of Thurmont, Maryland died peacefully Sunday, February 8, 2015 at her home. Born November 1, 1941 in Emmitsburg, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Margaret Shields Kelly. She was the wife of Elmer “Sonny” Sweeney, Jr., to whom she was married for 56 years.
Patricia attended St. Joseph High School in Emmitsburg. She worked at the Rotorex Company in Walkersville for many years, retiring in 2004. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Thurmont. She enjoyed gardening, yard sales, going to the Thurmont McDonald’s, sitting on the porch with special sister-in-law Patricia M. Sweeney, and spending time with her family.
Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Dennis Sweeney and wife Dawn, Kenneth Sweeney and wife Carol, Brenda Sweeney Williams, Wanda Peomroy and husband Kenneth, and Rhonda Sweeney Boggs, all of Thurmont; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Mary Ann Glass and brother, Tony Kelly, Sr.
The family will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St, Emmitsburg, MD. Rosary at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Shrine Parish, 16150 St. Anthony Rd, Emmitsburg, MD, with the Rev Lawrence Donohoo as celebrant. Interment will follow at New St. Joseph Cemetery.
