Patricia (Nicely) Sampson

September 30, 1938 — June 20, 2017

Patricia Ann “Pat” Sampson, 78, of Fairfield, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at York Hospital in York, PA.  Born September 30, 1938 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Laburn and Hazel (Ball) Nicely.  She was the wife of Norman F. Sampson.

Pat was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.  She was a daycare provider for many years and had retired from Family Partnership in Frederick.  She was a devout Christian and was a member of the Otterbein Ministry.  She had a great love for her family, horses, swimming, baking, and entrepreneurial adventures.  She was well-known for her beautiful wedding and holiday cakes.  Pat made all holidays special.  She never missed a family event or milestone, big or small, or the opportunity to jitterbug with Norman.

Surviving are children, Cynthia Rice and husband David of Ponte Verda Beach, FL, Candy Bowers and husband Stephen of Woodsboro, MD,  Caythee Ruby and husband Randy of Rocky Ridge, MD, Rodney Jones of the Solomon Islands, Cady Meier and husband Reid of Huntsville, AL, Catricia Lankford of Waynesboro, PA, and Jeanne Hurt and husband Mike of Fall Creek, WI; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  She will be especially missed by good friends, Delores and Harvey Cady, and her dog Smokey.  She was predeceased by three children, Michael Jones, Karen Gardner, and Darlene Sampson; and special granddaughter, Rebecka Ridenour.

The family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 25 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD.  A graveside service and burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Blue Ridge Cemetery, 121 N. Altamont Ave., Thurmont, MD.   At Pat’s request, a celebration of her life will then take place at 12 p.m. at Carroll Valley Park, 5685 Fairfield Rd., Carroll Valley, PA.
