Patricia E. Adams-Flessner, age 58, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died suddenly on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born April 21, 1950 in Kansas, and lovingly adopted by the late John Robert and Margaret Ann Adams. She was the wife of 10 years to Conrad “Skip” Flessner Jr.
Pat was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Emmitsburg at the time of her death. She was active in the community, volunteering with the Mission of Mercy, Lay Mission of Charity, Prison Ministries, Drug Abuse/Rehabilitation at Mt. Manor Treatment Center, Prayer Healing Ministry, and she was a Eucharistic Minister at both St. Joseph’s and St. Vincent’s Care Center for the Daughters of Charity.
Pat had retired to Emmitsburg after over twenty years with the Cardiovascular Diagnostic Laboratory of the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she participated in the development and use of angioplasty techniques as a Cardiovascular Radiologic Technician. She contributed to over twenty technical publications. After retirement from Hopkins, she worked as a certified nursing assistant at St. Catherine’s Nursing Center in Emmitsburg.
Pat was an avid reader, loved animals, her Catholic faith and travel, especially to the Marian pilgrimage site of Medjugorje in Bosnia, where she had a profound conversion. Another cherished event in her life occurred in 2000 with the discovery and joyous reunion with her birth mother’s family in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Surviving her in addition to her husband are brothers John Robert Adams Jr. and William Adams, both of Fayetteville, Georgia, and a sister, Nancy Dansbury of Langhorne, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday March 3, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St. in Emmitsburg, with the Rev. Paul M. Murphy, C.M. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the New St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main Street, Emmitsburg. MD.
