Norman Reno Houck

January 26, 1914 — June 14, 2014

Norman Reno Houck, 100, of Taneytown, Maryland died peacefully Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Lookabout Manor Assisted Living near Westminster.  Born January 26, 1914 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Jeremiah “Frank” and Marie Adams Houck.  He was the husband of Mary Koontz Houck, to whom he was married for 68 years.

Norman was a 1934 graduate of Taneytown High School.  He and his wife Mary farmed for 23 years before moving to Taneytown where he worked for Marvin Wolfe for many years before retiring.  He enjoyed woodworking and donated his labor to many organizations.  He was a life-long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown where he served on the cemetery board.  He was also active at the Emmitsburg Senior Center.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by nieces, Thelma Carr and Edna Stephan of Westminster, Anna Ebaugh of Ocean City, Virginia Stitely of Florida, and Shirley Shaffer of Hanover, PA; and nephews, Raymond and Dave Baker of Westminster, and Richard Koontz of Taneytown.  He was predeceased by sisters, Marie Baker and Ruth Hoffman, and nephews, Junior Baker, and Charles and James Hoffman.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD, with the Rev. Stacy Marsh officiating.  Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
