Norma (Keefer) Smith

Norma Lea Smith, 88, of Westminster, MD, died on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.  Born June 17, 1933 in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late J. Walter and Ora (Snyder) Keefer.  She was the devoted wife of the late John Harvey Smith, to whom she was married for 68 years.  He passed in June of 2020.

Norma was a secretary with Carroll County Public Schools and some local businesses for several years.  She was a member of Emmanuel Baust United Church of Christ in Tyrone.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening, working crossword puzzles, playing board games and card games with family members, watching NASCAR races, and collecting dragonflies.  In her younger years, she enjoyed playing golf and snowmobiling.  More than anything, she loved spending time with her family.  She enjoyed preparing amazing holiday meals for the family to enjoy.

Surviving are daughters, Lois McGinnis and husband Dave, and Karen Sollott and companion Kenny Seitz, Jr., all of Westminster; grandchildren, Ryan Guth and wife Erica, Lindsay Maguire and husband Matt, Kelli Renfro and husband Bryant, Sara Sollott, and Kevin McGinnis; 6 great-grandsons; former son-in-law, Howard Guth; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband John, she was predeceased by daughter, Linda Guth, brother, Orville E. Keefer, and sister-in-law, Irma Keefer.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Emmanuel Baust United Church of Christ, 2930 Old Taneytown Rd., Westminster, MD 21158 with Pastor Jeffry A. Dull officiating.  Burial will follow in the Baust Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. on Monday, July 26 ^th at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD.
