Nicholas F. Flynn, age 92, of Westminster, Maryland, formerly of Silver Spring, Maryland, died peacefully on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center in Westminster.
Born February 15, 1921 in Boston, Mass., he was the son of the late Cornelius Flynn and Winifred Walsh Flynn. He was the husband of the late Virginia (Sands) Flynn his wife of 60 years.
Mr. Flynn was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Silver Spring. He worked for several federal agencies during his career with the government; including the Navy Department, IRS, and the National Archives. Upon his retirement he went on to have a successful career in real estate. He worked tirelessly for Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed square dancing with his wife. He served proudly during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a 2nd Lt. and Bombadeer.
Surviving are his children, Gerard Flynn and wife Regina of Hanson, Mass., Janet Fletcher and husband Calvin “Fletch” of Abingdon, MD, William Flynn and wife Judith of Hampstead, James Flynn and fiancée Lisa D’Amato of Woodbine, MD, Lois Bowman and husband Glenn of Cottage Grove, Minn.; grandchildren, Julie, Jeff, Nick, Melissa, Ryan, Nick, Jon, Morgan, Jenna, Raechel, Leslie, Katie and Holly, great-grandchildren, Tatum, Noah, Cassidy, Jake, Hunter, and Nevaeh.
He was predeceased by brothers, John, Edward, Thomas, Bartholomew, and Cornelius Flynn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 12319 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD, with Rev. Y. David Brault as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
