Mildred “Millie” Mary Smith, age 81, of Taneytown, Maryland, died peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.
Born June 19, 1931 in Libertytown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William and Johanna (Morrissey) Riordan. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin R. Smith.
Millie was a nurse at Kernans Hospital in Baltimore prior to raising her family. She was an active member and communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown and a member of the Ladies Sodality of the Blessed Mother. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, card games, and was always in prayer for family and friends.
Surviving are daughters, Kathleen Smith, Kimberly Smith, and Tina Adams and husband Todd all of Taneytown; brother, Edward Riordan of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Joan Boyd of Littlestown, PA; grandsons, Christopher Ricketts of FL, and Shawn Ricketts of Frederick; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by siblings, Marie Davis, Frances Hollman, Eleanor Shepley, Catherine Wantz, William Riordan, and Margaret Adams.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 W. Frederick St, Taneytown, MD with Monsignor Martin E. Field as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in Keysville Union Cemetery in Keysville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St. Taneytown, with Rosary prayers to follow at 8 p.m.
