Mildred (Snyder) Elower

Mildred Irene “Millie” Elower, 85, of Thurmont, MD passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Ministries in Emmitsburg, MD.  Born January 29, 1933 in Mt. Airy, MD, she was the daughter of the late William “Mac” and Ethel (McCallum) Snyder.  She was the wife of the late Donald Lee Elower, to whom she was married for 67 years.

Millie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was involved for many years with the Thurmont Homemakers.  She stayed home with her family, then worked for “Flowers By Roy” for many years after her children were grown.  She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Thurmont where she enjoyed singing in the choir.  She also enjoyed bowling, traveling, crocheting, and spending time with her family.

Surviving are daughters, Linda Sicilia and husband Pete, and Karen Purcell and husband Steve, all of Thurmont, and Blasia Drumm and husband Matt of PA; brothers, Ernest Snyder and wife Martha of AZ, and Daniel Snyder and wife Marilyn of PA; sister-in-law, Miriam J. Snyder of NC; brother-in-law, Robert Butler of CA; daughter-in-law Joan Elower of Emmitsburg; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  She is also remembered by life-long friend, Dorothy “Dot” Ramsburg.  In addition to her beloved husband Donald, she was predeceased by her son, Donald Wayne Elower, brother, William Eldridge Snyder, sister, Doris Snyder Butler, and sister-in-law, Susie Gilbert Snyder.

A memorial service to celebrate Millie’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 101 E. Main St., Thurmont, MD, 21788 with the Rev. Sean DeLawder officiating.  Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.
