Michael Thomas Wren, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2024 after a 40-year battle with Wagener’s Disease, he lived a life filled with dedication, service, and love.
Mike started his family and professional career in Lee's Summit, Missouri, where he embarked on a remarkable career in the fire service. From his early days as a Dispatcher to his role as Acting Fire Chief, Mike's commitment to his community and colleagues was unwavering. His contributions extended beyond his local department, as he shared his expertise as an Adjunct Instructor at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD and authored a chapter on financial management in the Fire Chief’s handbook which was a valuable reference used for decades.
Beyond his career in the fire service, Mike's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own company, specializing in software and computer programming. He lent his talents to various companies, including East Alco Aluminum in Frederick, MD, leaving a lasting impact with his innovative approach and dedication to excellence.
His interests were as diverse as his accomplishments. He found joy in exploring history, reveling in the beauty of nature, participating in Scouting with his sons, and cooking for his family. He cherished moments spent watching movies, being amused by his cats, listening to audiobooks, and nurturing his passion for coin collecting.
Mike's greatest pride and joy were his family. He shared a profound bond with his wife, Lee, and took immense pride in the accomplishments of his family. His love extended to his cherished grandchildren, who brought endless joy to his life.
Mike is preceded in death by his brother, George B. Wren, and his parents, Teresa and George B. Wren. He is survived by his loving wife, Lee; devoted sons, Eric [Beth] Wren of Purcellville, VA, and Steven Wren of Fairfield, PA; adoring grandchildren; Brandon, Cassidy, Nathan, and Sophia; and brothers, Bill [Janice] Wren of Kansas City, MO, and Fred Wren of Houston, TX.
Mike's legacy of service, passion, and love will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories, and his spirit will continue to inspire all who were touched by his kindness and generosity.

A celebration of Mike's life will be held at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W Main St, Emmitsburg, MD, on Saturday June 8, 2024 at 11AM. Friends and family are invited to honor and remember a remarkable man whose impact will endure for generations to come.
