Michael Wantz, Sr.

Michael Lee Wantz, Sr., 66, of Thurmont, MD, died on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.  Born June 12, 1954 in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Robert H. and Irene A. (Miller) Wantz.

Mike was a graduate of Catoctin High school, class of ’73.  He worked for Schildt Construction Company in Thurmont for more than 30 years.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR, and spending time with his boys.  He was a life member of the Indian Lookout Conservation Club in Emmitsburg.

Surviving are sons, Michael Lee Wantz, Jr. and Nick Wantz, both of Thurmont; siblings, Elinor Young (Rick) of Emmitsburg, Patti Wivell (Randy) of Emmitsburg, Mary Mowrey (Bill) of Orrtanna, PA, Joanie Wantz (John) of Fairfield, PA, Tommy Wantz (Kelly) of Fairfield, PA, Joyce Becker (Steve) of Denton, MD, and Lisa Dayberry (Marty) of Bermudian Springs, PA; sister-in-law, Theresa Wantz of Emmitsburg; brother-in-law, Terry Coblentz; and several nieces and nephews.  He is also remembered by his former wife and best friend, Patti Wantz of Smithsburg, and former in-laws, Roger and Carol Gray.  He was predeceased by son, Josh Wantz, brother, Robert Wantz, and sister-in-law, Kim Coblentz.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD 21727 with the Rev. James Coblentz officiating.  Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont.  The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. on Monday, the 28th at the funeral home.  Please be aware that masks are required in the funeral home, and space is very limited due to COVID regulations for social distancing.
