Michael "Mickey" Archer Sundgren

Michael “Mickey” Archer Sundgren, 77, formerly of Shippensburg, PA and Taneytown, MD, died Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at home in Martinsburg, WV. Born November 25, 1946, in Salina, KS, he was the son of the late Archer W. Sundgren, Jr. and Martha Ellen (Goering) Sundgren.

He was a 1964 graduate of Ellsworth High School, Ellsworth, KS, served in the Air Force from 1964-1968, and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1972. The following year he began a career with Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, MD as a computer systems analyst and worked until retirement in 2008. After retirement he worked for Flagger Force and then drove a Pilot car for the last 12 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 15 years, Darlene V. (Bowers) Sundgren. Surviving are his daughters Kerry Garrett (Josh) and Jessica Rodgers (Mark) both of Martinsburg, WV; stepdaughters Sandi Luzier (Ben) of Keymar, MD, Stacie Newman (Shane) of Hanover, PA, and Sherri LaGrave (Bo) of Keymar, MD; grandchildren Kyle, Tabytha, Kaitlyn, Tori, Daniel Jr., Dalton, Emilie, Mason, and Lizzy; and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother John W. Sundgren (Janie) of Merced, CA, and sisters Martha “Mardi” Hamburger (Leroy), of Fredericktown, MO, and Melanie Florine (Don) of Roxbury, KS, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Keysville Union Cemetery, Keysville, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Castle Air Museum, Atwater, CA.
