Melva J. Schutz, age 89, of Westminster, Maryland, died on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore from complications of a heart attack.
Born May 10, 1921 in Ona, West Virginia she was the daughter of the late Eustace and Icy (Scareberry) Hagley, Sr. She was predeceased by her husband, Arley J. Schutz in 1996.
Melva was of the Catholic faith, and attended chapel services at the Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village where she resided in the 201 apartment building since 2001. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with family.
Surviving are brother, Eustace “Junior” Hagley of Littlestown, Pa; sister, Naomi Henry of Ona, West Virginia; many nieces and nephews; great niece, Casey Moore of Hanover, PA; great-nephew, Christopher Moore of Baltimore.
She was predeceased by brothers, Estel, Shelby, Willie, Joseph, Calvin, and Arnold Hagley; sister, Mary Lee Hagley; and niece, Terri L. Moore.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 from 6-8 PM and on Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 10 AM until the time of service at 11:30 AM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, Maryland with the Rev. Jimmie L. Schwartz, chaplain of Carroll Lutheran Village officiating. Interment will follow in the Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Baltimore.
