Mary Rita “Marian” Kotas

Mary Rita “Marian” Kotas, age 93, of Westminster, formerly of Marilla, NY passed away at Lorien Taneytown. Born October 10, 1930, in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ignatius and Mary Fialkowski Hopcia.

Marian grew up in Alden NY where she met and married Edward Lewis Kotas in 1956. Together they had a tree farm for over 40 years in Marilla, NY. They grew and sold a variety of evergreens, shrubs and flowering trees along with many types of Christmas trees. After her husband’s death in 2006, she moved to her daughter’s home in Westminster. She remained very independent until her health declined in recent months.  She loved being outside, flowers and cats.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Marie Webster of Westminster, grandsons, Sean and Nathan Webster, both of Westminster, a sister-in-law, Rosemary Hopcia of Alden NY, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Broom and brothers, Norbert and Richard Hopcia.

There will be a celebration of life and interment in NY at a later date.
