Mary Belle Utz, age 85 of Westminster, died Monday March 16, 2009 at Carroll Hospital Center. She was born July 20, 1923 in Baltimore daughter of the late Raymond L. and Rae Rock Hahn. She was the wife of the late John I Utz, Sr. She graduated as a R.N. from Mt. Vernon Hospital in Mt. Vernon NY. She was a member of St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ and was on the Wellness Committee. She has been a member since 1949 and was president nine years of the Pleasant Valley Homemakers. She was president of the Carroll County Association for Family and Community Education. She served as secretary for the Pleasant Valley Recreation Counsel. She was a member of the Mason Dixon Square Dancers, Spinning Wheels Square Dancers, Westminster Moose and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pleasant Valley Fire Co.
She is survived by loving and caring cousins, Patricia Desautels and Bill and Barbara Desautels, nieces, Nancy H. Comeau of California, Jana S. Hahn of Virginia, Carolyn R. Hahn of Virginia and Patricia E. Eroh of Michigan; step-daughter, Charlotte L. Dell of Westminster; five step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Rock Hahn and a stepson, John I. Utz, Jr.
A funeral service will be held Saturday 11:30 A.M. at St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ, 1427 Pleasant Valley Road, Westminster with her pastor, Rev. Dale Krotee officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Friends may call Friday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster and 10:30 AM until time of service Saturday at the church. Pleasant Valley Auxiliary Memorial Service Friday 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
