Mary Etta (Myers) Strain

June 6, 1919 — August 7, 2016

Mary Etta Strain, 97, of Hanover, Pa, formerly of Westminster, Maryland went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at the Homewood at Plum Creek Retirement Center, in Hanover, Pa.

Born June 6, 1919 in Patapsco, Md., she was the daughter of the late Guy and Besse Myers.  She was the wife of the late David C. Strain.

Mary Etta was a devoted mother and homemaker.  She was a graduate of Westminster High School Class of 1936.  She was a member of both the Sandy Mount United Methodist Church in Westminster, Md., where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir, as well as the United Church of Christ affiliated Chapel, at Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover, Pa.  In addition to being a homemaker, in her early adult years, she was a substitute teacher in Linthicum, Md.  She enjoyed baking, crocheting, doing word-search puzzles, playing bingo, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are sons, David Strain and wife Patti of Bluffton, SC and Neil Strain and wife Linda of Hanover, Pa., 3 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-grandsons.  She was pre-deceased by brothers, Dennis Myers, Ralph Myers, and Roger Myers.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD with Chaplain Austin Chinault and Rev. Bill Boyer officiating.  Interment will follow in Westminster Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  A memorial service will be held at a future date at Homewood at Plum Creek.  Contact Homewood for the date and time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mary Etta to the Benevolent Fund at Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover, Pa., 17331.
