Mary Eleanor (Reed) Speciale

Mary Eleanor Speciale, 83, of Westminster, Maryland died on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Carroll Hospital Center following several years battle with heart, lung issues and other illnesses.

Born July 29, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland she was the daughter of the late Charles Joseph Reed and Catherine Marie (Holmes) Reed.

Mary worked her way up over 40 years from Accounts Receivables to Credit and Collections climbing the ladder to Treasurer of the company Carey be Machinery, Inc. in Baltimore.  During that time she also attended Notre Dame College where she received Honor awards and was very high in her class but had to stop short of her Degree to lovingly take care of her mother.  She then worked for a few years with Motley Corporation as Credit and Collections Manager and office Manager.  She volunteered for the Carroll County Literacy Council teaching people who never learned to read, and then moved into the Office Manager position.  She worked at an elementary school in Westminster teaching children the love of grammer and reading.  She significantly impacted 2 boys lives for four years helping them by teaching them several subjects, helping them through school to now attend college with a promising future.  Mary was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Westminster.  Mary’s devotions were her two children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Their welfare was the center of her heart.  She loved and was devoted to God and The Blessed Mother and attended Eucharist Adoration every week for over 20 years, until she endured many illnesses.  She then at home enjoyed Mass, Divine Mercy Prayer and the Rosary on television with her daughter Victoria.  Mary’s other interests were travel, the ocean, theater, music, movies, current world events and politics.  Mary’s one love in life were her two daughters, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and her dear siblings.  She loved solving problems and caring empathetically for her Neighbor.

Surviving are daughter, Victoria N. Speciale of Westminster; grandchildren, Bradley Erdman of TN and Christopher Erdman of Washington, DC; great-grandchildren, Kara and Clark Erdman; step-grandchildren, Hailey Hannibal, Hunter and Hayden Orem; sisters, Catherine Marie Alford of Finksburg, and Theresa Anne Reed of Baltimore; brother, Leo Francis Reed of N.C.; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by daughter, Valerie C. Hannibal; former spouse, Vincent Rudolph Speciale; sister, Margaret Curley Seebode; brothers, Charles Joseph Reed and Thomas Joseph Reed.

A private graveside service will be held at Meadow Branch Cemetery in Westminster.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Westminster.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist the family with final expenses.
