Mary Jane Smith, age 85, of Taneytown, Maryland, died suddenly on Friday, October 3, 2008 at her home.
Born September 16, 1923 in Willow Hill, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Harry H. and Erma M. (Burk) Bock. She was the wife of 60 years to Charles “Bill” Kenneth Smith.
Mary was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown, and an active volunteer in the community. She graduated high school in Metal Twp., Pa., and received her bachelors degree from Shippensburg State College in Pa. She taught in the Taneytown elementary school until her retirement. Mary loved flowers, baking, and cross word puzzles.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Donna Smith of Ft. Collins, Colorado; brother, Owen Bock of Willow Hill, Pa.; sister, Grace Winegardner of Willow Hill, Pa. Also surviving are many extended family and close friends.
She was pre-deceased by a son, Myron Burnell Smith in 1984, and by brother, James Bock.
A Celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown, with her pastor the Rev. Nicholas Brie officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown and again on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Please allow extra time for parking, delays possible due to main street Taneytown construction traffic.
