Mary-Lou Pletcher, 86, of Taneytown, (Harney), Maryland, died peacefully on Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster, Maryland.
She was born on July 22, 1930 in Kenniwick, Washington, daughter of the late William Perier and Grace (Harrison) Perier. She was married on March 14, 1952 to her beloved husband of 64 years, Herbert N. T. Pletcher.
She was a member of the Piney Creek Church of the Brethren in Taneytown, Maryland, and honored as “Mother of the Year” in 2014. She served as a church secretary for many years with Georgia Ave. Christian Church in Silver Spring, MD, Lutheran Church in Bethesda, MD, Westminster Church of the Brethren, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in New Windsor, MD, and the Piney Creek Church of the Brethren. She typed and printed bulletins and church directories for many years. She was a past member of the Medford Grange #188 Westminster, MD state Grange, and attended many national Grange sessions. She was a member of the Gypsy-twirlers square and round dance camping club. She was a master seamstress, crochet, macramé, knitter, and taught many how to sew. She enjoyed cooking and was an exhibiter for the MD State Fair for over 30 years. She made family vacations very special for her children, going on bike rides, visiting tee-shirt shops, and taking them to swimming pools. She was very active in helping her son Blair in Cub and Boy Scouting, attending track and field events, and building models.
Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Janice Lorilla Laswell and husband Timothy of Columbia, MD, Amy Catharine Buck and husband Craig of Mount Airy, MD, and Blair Herbert Harrison Pletcher and wife Jackie of Dallastown, PA; grandchildren, Jared and Trena Laswell, Amanda Buck, Carolyn Buck-Seitz, Kyrsten Buck, Carson Buck, and Tiffany Pletcher. She is also survived by her beloved pet dog shih-tzu “Barney” and the late “Suki and Sashi”.
She was predeceased by sisters, Amy and Margaret.
A viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 East Baltimore St., Taneytown and on Friday, October 7, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the KADER-NEFF FUNERAL HOME, 135 W. Main St., Howard, PA. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Howard Christian Church, 367 Walnut Street, Howard, PA 16841 with Rev. Don Crane officiating. Burial will follow in the Schenck Cemetery in Howard Twp., PA.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, may be made to either the Piney Creek Church of the Brethren, Carroll Hospice, or to the Medford Grange.
