Mary C. Haines, age 83, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully at the Carroll Hospice Dove House on Monday, March 16, 2015. She was born on March 31, 1931 in Greenmount, MD, the daughter of the late Claude Otterbein and Elizabeth S. (Ridgeley) Nagle. Twice married, she was predeceased by her first husband, Calvin Herbert Lucy, Sr. and by second husband, Carroll Singer Haines.
Mary formerly attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, PA. She worked for a time with McCormick Corporation, but devoted most of her working career as secretary in the Registrar’s Office of the former Western Maryland College, now known as McDaniel College in Westminster. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, bird watching, and traveling. She was a wonderful cook, and especially enjoyed time with her family, grandchildren, and friends.
Surviving are her daughter, Susan L. Maseth and husband Robert of Westminster; son, Calvin H. Lucy, Jr. and wife Kathy of Littlestown, PA; step-daughter, Carol Ann DeGroft and husband Charles of Cave City, Kentucky; grandchildren, Ashton and Emily Maseth, Skyler DeGroft and Jamie DeGroft and wife Robin; great-grandson, Riley DeGroft; sister, Beverly Franklin of Sykesville. She was predeceased by sisters, Virginia Houck, Elizabeth Bell, Claudine Price, and by two brothers in infancy.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 9:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Little Baker Memorial Chapel on the campus of McDaniel College in Westminster, MD with Rev. Robert Burkhart officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends immediately following the service for reception in the McDaniel Lounge.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Westminster, MD.
