Mary Fran Darsch (nee Maddox) of Hampstead, Maryland, formerly of Annandale, Virginia passed into eternal rest on July 12, 2022 at the age of 98. Mary was born in Asheville, North Carolina to Myrtle Alma (Bryant) and Carroll Samuel Maddox. She grew up at her home in Lynchburg, Virginia and her paternal grandparents’ farm in Naruna (Campbell County) Virginia.

At the outbreak of the second world war, Mary moved to Baltimore and began working for Glen L Martin Aircraft, later joining the Signal Intelligence Service at the War Department in Washington.  While working in Baltimore, Mary met the love of her life. She and Earl were married on March 19, 1946, after he had finished his service in the Navy. They lived briefly in Washington, and then moved first to Arlington and then to Annandale where they would raise their family and share nearly 37 years of marriage until Earl’s death in 1983.

Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother (Nana). She was active in her community and involved in her children’s lives.  Mary loved to travel and was a charter member of the Broyhill Crest Garden Club.  She was an accomplished artist, an avid bridge player, a voracious reader, a five star cook, and a wonderful hostess.  Mary had a kind and generous spirit, always welcoming to others and supportive of her family and many friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mary was predeceased by her brothers Eugene Maddox and Carroll Maddox, Jr. She is survived by her three children, Karen (James) Kinser of Luray, VA, Nancy (Kolandious) Green of Centreville, VA, and Bruce (Barbara) Darsch of Hampstead, MD. She is also survived by six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
